How the Jewels of Ra Respin Feature Works

The Respin Feature is the bonus of Jewels of Ra and the source of almost all of its big payouts. It belongs to the hold-and-win family — sticky money symbols, respins that reset, fixed jackpots — but it adds two parts that change the maths: a collect symbol called the Sun of Ra and a multiplier that climbs from x1 to x10 every time the Sun collects. This page walks through the feature from the first scarab to the final payout, and covers the smaller base-game features along the way.

All Jewels of Ra Features in One Place

  • Scarab money symbols — land in the base game with a cash value or a jackpot attached; five of them lock for a free respin, six or more open the bonus.
  • Respin Feature — the hold-and-win round: three respins, reset by every new scarab, played on the full 20-position grid.
  • Sun of Ra — the collect symbol, available only inside the feature; gathers every scarab value, clears the grid and resets the respins.
  • Collect multiplier — x1, x2, x3, x5, x10, advancing one step per collection; applied to cash values, not to jackpots.
  • Fixed jackpots — Minor 200x, Major 500x and Mega 2,500x, carried by scarabs.
  • Synchronizing Reels — a random base-game event in which two to five reels show identical symbols.
  • Multiplier wilds — x2, x3 and x5 wilds on reels two to five that multiply together; listed with the symbols on the paytable page.
  • Ante Bet, Super Spin and feature purchase — three paid ways to change the odds, compared on the bonus buy page.

Money Symbols: The Scarabs

Scarabs are the currency of the feature. They come in blue, green, red and gold, and every one that lands shows either a cash value — 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 100x the total bet — or the name of one of the three jackpots. Scarabs do not pay by count and do not form ways. Their values are banked only when the Sun of Ra collects them, which is why a grid full of scarabs is worth nothing until the Sun arrives or the grid fills completely.

Five scarabs: the sticky respin

Landing exactly five scarabs on a base-game spin does not open the feature, but it does not waste them either. The five lock in place and the remaining fifteen positions respin once. If a sixth scarab lands, the Respin Feature starts with all six already held; if not, the spin is resolved normally and the scarabs disappear. It is a built-in second chance, and in a high-volatility game it matters: some bonuses begin from this near miss rather than from a clean six.

How to Trigger the Respin Feature

Six or more scarabs anywhere on the 5×4 grid on one spin start the feature. The published trigger rate is around one in 135 spins at the normal bet. Three paid options change that:

Option Price Effect on the trigger
Ante Bet 3x the stake bonus five times more likely
Super Spin 20x the stake synchronised reels guaranteed; the feature cannot trigger on that spin
Feature purchase 60x the stake the feature starts immediately

Note the Super Spin trade-off: it buys a base-game effect, not the bonus. The purchase at 60x is the only way to open the feature on demand; the bonus buy page compares the three in detail.

Inside the Bonus: Three Respins That Reset

When the feature opens, the scene moves inside the pyramid, where the reels sit on a heap of gold coins. Every scarab that triggered the bonus stays locked and the counter shows three respins. Each respin spins only the empty positions. Whenever a new scarab lands it locks as well and the counter returns to three; whenever a respin produces nothing new, the counter drops by one. The round ends only when the counter reaches zero — a Sun of Ra collection clears the grid but resets the counter, so the feature carries on. Twenty positions are in play, and filling all of them triggers a special rule described below.

Sun of Ra: The Collect Symbol

The Sun of Ra is the symbol the whole bonus is built around. It appears only during the feature, never in the base game. When it lands, three things happen in order: every scarab cash value on the grid is added up and multiplied by the current collect multiplier, the total is paid, and the grid is cleared with the respin counter reset to three. The round then continues on an empty grid — the scarabs you collected are gone, but the respins are back.

This makes the feature different from a standard hold-and-win round, where held symbols stay until the respins run out and are paid once at the end. In Jewels of Ra the grid can be emptied and refilled several times within one bonus, and each emptying pays.

Collect multiplier: x1 → x2 → x3 → x5 → x10

The first collection pays scarab values at x1. After it, the multiplier moves to x2; the next collection pays at x2 and moves it to x3, then x5, then x10, where it stays. So the fourth and later collections in one bonus pay ten times the printed scarab values. Worked example: a grid holding 10x, 25x, 5x, 5x and 50x (95x in total) pays 95x at the first collection, 190x if the same values are collected at x2, and 950x at x10. The multiplier applies to cash values only; a jackpot scarab on the same grid is paid at its face value and is not multiplied.

Full grid rule

If every one of the twenty positions holds a scarab, the game collects on its own without waiting for the Sun of Ra: all values are paid at the current multiplier, the grid is cleared, and the multiplier advances one step exactly as if the Sun had landed. A full grid is rare, but it is the scenario that produces the largest single payouts, because twenty high scarabs under x5 or x10 approach the 5,000x cap in one collection.

Jackpots: Minor 200x, Major 500x and Mega 2,500x

The three jackpots are fixed amounts carried by scarab symbols, not a separate wheel or pick game. A scarab marked Minor is worth 200x the bet, Major 500x and Mega 2,500x. They are collected together with everything else when the Sun of Ra lands or the grid fills, but the collect multiplier does not touch them: a Mega jackpot pays 2,500x at x1 and still 2,500x at x10. Because the game's overall ceiling is 5,000x the bet, a Mega jackpot plus a strong multiplied collection can reach the cap in a single feature.

Is It Hold and Win?

Pragmatic Play calls the round the Respin Feature, but in format it is a hold-and-win (or hold-and-spin) bonus: value symbols lock, empty positions respin, the counter resets on every hit, fixed jackpots sit among the values. What sets Jewels of Ra apart is the Sun of Ra and its multiplier ladder: a standard hold-and-win pays once when the respins end, whereas here the Sun pays mid-round, resets the counter and raises the multiplier, so the bonus is about how many collections you can string together.

Synchronizing Reels

Synchronizing Reels is a random base-game event, independent of the bonus. On any paid spin, two, three, four or all five reels may link and stop on the same symbols in the same rows. With 1,024 ways that converts into stacked wins across the linked reels, and when the synchronised symbols include multiplier wilds the result multiplies up quickly. The Super Spin option, priced at 20x the stake, guarantees that between two and five reels synchronise on that spin — at the cost of the Respin Feature being unable to trigger on it.

Wild Multipliers in the Base Game

Wilds land on reels two to five with a x2, x3 or x5 multiplier and substitute for all paying symbols; several in one win multiply together, so x3 and x5 give x15. They play no part inside the Respin Feature but are the main reason base-game spins occasionally pay tens of times the bet. Values are on the symbols and paytable page; the returns behind all of this are on the RTP page.

FAQ

How do you trigger the Respin Feature in Jewels of Ra?

Land six or more scarab money symbols on a single spin. Five scarabs lock and give one free respin as a second chance; a sixth on that respin starts the feature. The trigger rate is around one in 135 spins, Ante Bet makes it five times more likely, and the feature can be bought for 60x the bet.

What is the Sun of Ra in Jewels of Ra?

The Sun of Ra is the collect symbol of the Respin Feature and appears only inside it. When it lands, it adds up every scarab cash value on the grid, applies the current collect multiplier, pays the total, clears the grid and resets the respin counter to three, so the bonus continues on an empty grid.

How many respins do you get in Jewels of Ra?

The feature starts with three respins. Every new scarab that lands locks in place and resets the counter to three, and every respin without a new scarab reduces it by one. A Sun of Ra collection also resets the counter, so a single bonus can run far beyond three spins.

What are the jackpots in Jewels of Ra?

There are three fixed jackpots carried by scarab symbols: Minor at 200x the bet, Major at 500x and Mega at 2,500x. They are collected with the other scarabs when the Sun of Ra lands or the grid fills, but the collect multiplier does not apply to them; they are always paid at face value.

Does Jewels of Ra have free spins or a scatter?

No. Jewels of Ra has no scatter symbol and no free-spins round. The only bonus is the Respin Feature, started by six or more scarabs, bought for 60x the bet, or made five times more likely with Ante Bet. Super Spin affects the base game only and never opens the feature.
